Another day, another Flower Knows product to review.
THE BACKSTORY: I’m sure I’ve yapped about how much I like Flower Knows ad nauseum so I’m going to skip the backstory. They’re just a beautifully packaged and wonderfully formulated C-Beauty brand started by a cosplayer couple.
INGREDIENTS: Talc, Polymethyl Methacrylate, Mica, Silica, Dimethicone, Titanium Dioxide (Ci 77891), Pentaerythrityl Tetraisostearate, Zinc Stearate, Cetearyl Ethylhexanoate, Zea Mays (Corn) Starch, Caprylyl Glycol, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Tocopheryl Acetate, Iron Oxides (Ci 77492), Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Iron Oxides (Ci 77491), Aluminum Hydroxide, Dimethiconol, Tocopherol, Iron Oxides (Ci 77499)
THE PRODUCT: The thing is, if I go anywhere, especially when the sun is up, my routine is unchanging. I slather on my sunscreen generously and then to mitigate the wetness from it, I usually use some sort of translucent loose powder or pressed powder to set it. Hence, a good setting powder is a staple in my beauty routine. I don’t use it for anything else other than to set my sunscreen since I don’t use any other base products as is.
I believe this “Strawberry Cupid” collection launched around Spring. I immediately decided I won’t be getting any more of their blushes simply because I had far too many of those. I wanted to switch things up a bit. I wanted something that would be more functional and something I’d get more use out of.
Then I saw that they were offering Pressed Powders in the collection. It made complete sense for me to grab one.
Of course, as always their packaging is their USP. Even if the product sucks, you will always have something gorgeous to feast your eyes on. Thankfully, in this case and most others, Flower Knows products happen to be pretty decent.
I love the little strawberries on top of the compact as well as the little dollops of cream which make it look like a delicious cookie, waiting to be scarfed down. I also like the little cupid embossed onto the powder itself. If you lift up the pressed powder’s pan, you get a divot that stores a puff for application. The mirror housed in the compact is also of good quality.
I don’t know how travel-friendly most Flower Knows products are because I fear breaking or tarnishing them. I do not travel with them at all so I can never vouch for them being easy to put in your purse for touch-ups.
Anyway, as for the Pressed Powder itself, it’s a very finely milled pressed powder. There is quite a bit of product kick-up in the pan when you swirl your brush in it. Just tap off the excess from your brush before application.
It is pore-blurring and it has a very light coverage which I personally like. Since it’s not a Powder Foundation, it doesn’t provide medium to full coverage. It’s light and is simply meant for setting your face for a fresh, skin-like finish. It’s soft and lightweight, other traits which I appreciate. It also doesn’t look cakey. I tend to use a Setting Spray in order to meld everything together anyway but it still doesn’t look cakey if you forgo it.
It keeps your face looking fresh for a very long time, even in the sweltering heat. I once went shopping in extremely high temperatures and then once I finished, found myself in a cafe too cool off. I still looked as fresh as a daisy.
An obvious downside is that while I don’t think these leave behind a white cast, I don’t know how it’ll fare on medium to dusky complexions. That’s just something I will always nitpick about and bring up with this brand. I have seen models with darker complexions in their campaigns of late so I am slowly restoring my faith in that department. I’d like to see them develop some more shades down the line, embracing a wider spectrum of skin-tones and skin-colours.
Another thing I’ll bring up is that it’s not a talc-free formula. I’m unsure if talc is just another one of those ingredients that they use for fear-mongering or if it truly ought to be booted off our beauty products but I just thought of mentioning it regardless.
