I bought this blush sometime last autumn, and now I am finally getting around to talking about it.
THE BACKSTORY: JOOCYEE is a C-Beauty brand whose product philosophies are “trendy look, comfortable wear and easy to use”. Checks out. Their packaging is appealing and their formulas seemed quite promising. Their products go viral from time to time so it was only a matter of time that I tried something from them. I, obviously, started with this blush. I feel like blushes are almost like a litmus test to me, to get a feel of how the brand overall would be.
THE PRODUCT: Like I said, their packaging is definitely appealing enough to hook you right in. Sure, they’re no Flower Knows or Jill Stuart but they’re also not like Addiction or NARS with their minimalistic packaging. They have that extra flair to their products, which help grab your attention.
The cardboard box it comes packaged in has this thread you unravel to open the box. Kind of like mail. It’s those little details that I enjoy from time to time, you know. Something different. The compact the blush comes in is made of a heavy plastic and has a magnetic closure along with a mirror inside. I also like the tortoise shell pattern on the compact and think it is rather chic. The blush itself has some ripples embossed on top, which, again, I think is cute.
Anyway, moving right along, this is a powder blush. There’s not a lot of product kick-up when you swirl your brush in the pan so you’d kind of expect it to be a harder formula but it really isn’t. It’s a super fine pressed powder formula and it’s smooth and easy to use.
It says it’s a matte blush but I find it to be more of a satin-matte finish. It doesn’t look as powdery or flat as your proper matte finish powder blushes.
It’s also rather pigmented and its opacity can be built up even more with layers. One layer is a lovely flush of colour across your cheeks and I personally think find it’s overkill to do more than two. I tend to use a blush brush to swipe the product on and then go in with a buffing brush to take some of it off.
It has decent longevity, especially under controlled temperatures. Of course, I reckon it won’t survive long days under the sweltering sun. I find that a good setting spray helps, like always.
I initially thought this line of blushes would be neutral but they’re warmer than I anticipated. This shade in particular pulls very warm on me and I wish it was a smidge more neutral/cool. It’s the one thing that puts me off. I really like the blush itself but there are days I don’t dig how the shade ends up looking like on me. It’s more of a Spring/Summer blush, too, and me trying to get this blush going during this cold Winter is really frying my brain.
I’ve also used this product as an eyeshadow, and I think it performs as good as one.
I really like how high quality the formula is. The extra details to the packaging also make me feel like this is a high-end product. It’s just funny how a lot of luxury/high-end brands charge so much more for subpar formulas with generic packaging.
