Laneige went all out with the marketing for this product, and I was suckered into buying three, still wanting more.
THE BACKSTORY: Like I said, the brand really put their ALL in the marketing campaign. It totally worked because of the immense hype the product created. Looking at the state the world is in right now, buying something as small as a lip balm to uplift your spirits is completely understandable (The Lipstick Effect, if you will). One couldn’t escape these lip balms on social media; that’s how persistent the marketing was. And as I sit here with THREE of them, I must commend Laneige for successfully creating FOMO if you looked the other way, as well as a solid product that would survive just fine without the insane marketing.
THE PRODUCTS: These come packaged in your typical lip gloss tubes. What sets them apart from their competitors is their applicator. It has a soft and squishy doughnut-shaped applicator, which, honestly, isn’t the most precise and can get very messy. I do like how plush it feels, but the novelty dies there.
I am also amused by how brands these days just use different synonyms to market a freaking lip balm. This one’s called a Lip Serum. Sure, okay, why not?
Upon the initial squeeze of the tube, the thing you will notice right away is the scent of the product . The scents correlate to the different flavours of donuts they are named after. They all smell incredibly, incredibly appetising and I appreciate how the scents aren’t too cloying either.
The consistency of this product is smooth and like, one might have wagered, a glaze. With one swipe, the product delivers a sheer wash of colour. But the opacity can definitely be built up and the shade deepens as you layer more on. I personally am not a big fan of how it feels if you build multiple layers of it, it can feel a touch too slippery/greasy. But it’s something you have to do if you want more pigment on the lips.
You also get an immediate ultra-glossy finish. It gives you instant hydration and it creates a glossy film over the lips that gets rid of any lip-lines or patches that you might be plagued with. The gloss doesn’t last too long but that is to be expected. Especially if you are constant lip-smacker/lip-smoosher like I am. It doesn’t survive meals.
Re-application is easy but you do need a mirror because the applicator is not built for precision.
Also note that the applicator really can get messy. I have to wipe off the tip and sides with a tissue after each use to keep it clean. It drives me nuts.
While the product is nice, I don’t think it warrants that hefty a price-tag. Products with similar textures and finishes are available at more affordable price points. And the brand is constantly shoving the applicator as its USP but it’s the applicator itself that pisses me off the most.

I wanted to see what all three of the Laneige Glaze Craze Lip Serums would look like if I mixed them and, honestly, this is a really pretty shade.
SWATCHES AND SHADES AVAILABLE: There are 8 shades available at the moment and I have no doubts that they will expand the lineup soon.
- ‘Strawberry Sprinkles’ – a cool-toned light pink that smells like a strawberry milkshake. If you have naturally pigmented lips, this might be a challenging shade to pull off on its own. Nothing a lip-liner cannot fix.
- ‘Sugar Glaze’ – a warm beige toffee shade that smells like brown sugar cookies. I wound up liking this the most.
- ‘Cinnamon Sugar’ – a cool-toned deep mauve that has the slightest touch of cinnamon in its scent. This is going to be one of those colours that will suit a vast majority of skin-tones. That being said, this wound up being my least favourite.
