Finally tried out a couple of things from Miss Grande’s brand.
THE BACKSTORY: I’d wanted to try R.E.M. Beauty ever since it launched, but I’m glad I waited for some time to make a purchase. I didn’t like how the brand looked initially, so, again, I’m glad I waited. Lip products are usually a safe bet, and I actually found a product I loved in this mini set.
THE PRODUCT: This set contains two of their lip product formulas – their Essential Drip Glossy Balm and their Essential Drip Lip Oil. The packaging is the same. Both of them come housed in a pill-shaped unit with a curved doe-foot applicator and a silver lid.
Neither of them are particularly long-wearing. They’re both products with a glossy finish so that just comes with the territory. That being said, you can reapply these with ease.
As far as I’m aware, their Glossy Balm is a bestseller. I’ll get into it in a moment.
R.E.M. Beauty Essential Drip Lip Oil in ‘Pickin Petals’.
Okay, first up, the Essential Drip Lip Oil – it’s a lot thinner than the kind of lip oils that I usually go for. It’s smooth, non-sticky and it’s goes on easily but it’s not as plush as I would like it to be. It’s thin like an oil, to be frank. Just like its name.
It provides instant hydration and has a beautiful glossy finish.
I do like it, but I don’t think I like it enough to purchase its full size . I just think there are better formulas out, as far as Lip Oils go. Being a Lip Oil aficionado of sorts, I’d pick the Haus Labs or Clarins over this any day (for affordable options, Swiss Beauty is very similar to the consistency of this one).
The applicator on the full-sized version also seems to have a ball inside that the mini does not. It would’ve made the experience more fun, but I understand why they would skip it.
Because it has no colour I can see how it can be something you just put in your purse to whip out whenever your lips need a little TLC. As for its scent, it has the faintest waft of rose petals.
It’s a noob-proof product, in all honesty. But still nothing all that great. It’s mid. There, I said it.
R.E.M. Beauty Essential Drip Glossy Balm in ‘Strawberry Soda’.
Now onto the Essential Drip Glossy Balm, I did not think I would like it as much as I do. Especially for how intense the shade seems in the unit. The brand says the wand on this is double-sided, which just means you can use it either way. I use the flat side only.
It is a very nourishing formula and I love the glossy finish it has. What’s more, this is more plush than their Lip Oil.
I also enjoy the mild vanilla cupcake scent it has. It’s not cloying and is pleasant.
Like I mentioned, the shade looks really intense in the packaging but it’s actually a lovely translucent cool-toned fuchsia once it’s on. The brand says it’s a “strawberry pink” but I disagree. Strawberry pinks tend to be redder and this is simply too blue to be that. It’s pretty, regardless.
I quite like this product. I definitely like this more, out of the two. I even see myself purchasing a full-sized version.
