This blush brought back so many fond memories.

THE BACKSTORY: By now I’ve written about ROM&ND products enough to make it obvious that I am a fan. When I saw that they made this cream blush, I happily placed an order for one because the packaging and formula reminded me of cream blushes my mother used when I was little. Blushes were my gateway into this world and this product brought back so many memories — of me secretly twisting up my mother’s cream blushes, playing with them and watching in awe as she put some on her cheeks.

THE PRODUCT: While I enjoy the little plastic ball the blush comes housed in, I can admit that it can get annoying from time to time. Especially on off days when I’m having dexterity issues. It does stand up on its own and doesn’t just roll around everywhere.

I got mine during a deal on Olive Young so it came with yet another clear plastic ball with a tiny leaf and keychain. Everything these days has a keychain  and you are supposed to hang it off your belt buckle or handbag. I understand the fad but I won’t be hanging a damn blush off my handbag. Mostly because I live in a country that is exceptionally warm and will melt just about anything, including myself and the damn blush hanging off my Uniqlo bag. It is cute, though. I won’t chastise you if you do it, I promise.

The blush itself is quite smooth. It is super creamy and it melts onto the skin like butter. Despite my initial skepticism, it actually adheres really well.

While it is pigmented, its opacity and build-able formula reminds me of high quality watercolours. One layer is more than enough but you can build up the opacity with more layers. I also like the translucent freshness of having only one layer on.

It’s almost as if there’s a film that forms when it attaches itself to your cheeks, which immediately gives you an incredibly dewy finish. Every time my eyes meet the glow that it imparts, I feel bad having to set it with a powder. It immediately gets rid of most of the sheen but you can’t not powder and leave it as is because it’ll just slip and slide and disappear from your face in half an hour. So you pick your battles.

Because I do not wear any base products underneath, I don’t mind rolling entire blush ball onto the apples of my cheeks. That being said, it  definitely is a more hygienic idea to just tap some on your finger/puff applicator/sponge and then apply it on your face. If you do wear foundation or other base products, you can just tap it on top. It won’t move what’s underneath.

Again, it has such an inherently dewy finish that the only way it is going to last is if you set it with a powder and then use a setting spray on top. Otherwise, it’s just going to melt right off . I suppose you can get away with not setting it by being in really controlled temperatures. If you are in an air-conditioned room, I think your make up will stay fine.

You are supposed to store this blush away from direct sunlight (like most makeup products) and under 45°C to avoid product sweating and the like.

ROM&ND Juicy Lasting Tint in ‘Bare Grape’ (Bottom) VS ROM&ND Juicy Roll Cheek in ‘Bare Grape’ (Top).

SIMILARITIES: So, ‘Bare Grape’ is arguably the most popular shade from their Juicy Lasting Tint series. I wanted to see if the two products shared any similarities in tone despite being different formulations/products overall. As you can tell from the picture, I was met with a big, fat NO. The Bare Grape JLT is weirdly more reddish while the blush is just pink. They may share names but they aren’t similar at all. At least, to me. What do you think?
