I’ve been meaning to analyse these two formulas for a long time. The post is finally here.
The moment I tried the Rare Beauty Lip Oil, I was reminded of a handful of other K-Beauty lip tint formulas. It wasn’t anything new or exciting to me but I understand why it made such a ruckus in the West. Formulas like these weren’t and still aren’t common. This gel-gloss-tint hybrid formula is a dime a dozen in the Chinese, Japanese and Korean markets.
A popular lip tint I thought the Rare Beauty one was similar to was ROM&ND’s Juicy Lasting Tint. Let’s dive deeper.
These have a lovely formula. These aren’t Lip Oils per se but they’re hydrating enough to make me give them the benefit of the doubt. They have this beautiful glossy finish, and after the gloss wears off, the stain that is left behind is pretty enough to be its own tint. Not only is the formula comfortable, but it is also very long wearing. What’s more, it’s easy to re-apply. If it weren’t for that hefty price-tag, I would definitely be buying more of these. The shade range is fine and you’ll definitely find a shade or two you’d like.

The thing that the ROM&ND ones have perfected is their extensive shade range. Each of the shades they have to offer differ from one another. Just enough to where you’d want to collect them all. They also have a glossy finish and are comfortable. They are also easy to re-apply. The price doesn’t sting as much either, and you could always look for various deals/offers to get them for cheaper. Their downside is that they don’t last very long on the lips. Even the stain they leave behind is quite weak in terms of longevity.

WINNER: ROM&ND Juicy Lasting Tint!!!!
Hear me out. The formula is nearly identical – the only caveat is the longevity, which can be easily maneuvered because of how easy re-application is. The shade range is more extensive and nuanced and it’s also easier on the pocket. This doesn’t just apply to ROM&ND in particular. You’ll find dozens and dozens of products with a similar formula from any K-Beauty/C-Beauty/J-Beauty brand. It doesn’t make sense for Rare Beauty to win this bout, no matter how great the product is.
