These glosses from fwee have had me in a chokehold for the past two years.
THE BACKSTORY: I’ve previously reviewed fwee’s viral pudding pots and am now finally getting around to discussing their gorgeous lip glosses. The brand operates under Benow, which also produces brands like Numbuzin and Knock. I’d say, among the other names under the main company’s umbrella, fwee and Numbuzin are the most easily recognisable because of their popularity online.
THE PRODUCT: First thing’s first, the lip glosses can be divided by their opacity levels. If you get yourself a shade that has “30%” before its name, it’s going to be sheer. If it has “70%” in front of the name, it’s going to be more opaque. I say this in the opening of the review itself because the packaging of the glosses also reflect that. The bean-shaped, double-walled components of the “30%” glosses are more translucent while the “70%” ones are opaque.
The applicator is a small, angled, leaf-shaped applicator. It doesn’t pick up a lot of product at a time so you may need to double dip to apply the product well.
Whether you pick the 30% or the 70% option, the formula remains the same. The glosses are a gel-gloss hybrid which makes it non-tacky or as gloopy as other glosses. Or greasy, for that matter. They’re juicy, plush and cushiony.
The difference between the 30% and 70% formulations come in terms of the opacity of the gloss. The 30% ones are sheerer and work well over other lip products underneath or if you just want a hint of colour on the lips. The 70% ones are more opaque and lacquer-like. They can be layered over other lip products but can pack enough of a punch on their own. They also tend to work better if you have pigmented lips or two-toned lips.
The glosses adhere well to your lips and smooth over any lip-lines or dry patches. They deliver immediate hydration and leave behind a mirror-like glaze. The glossy finish is highly reflective and makes your lips look fuller.
As a chronic lip-smacker, I appreciate that these glosses have some body to them. They make my lip-smacking a lot less detrimental to the overall appearance and condition of my lips.
The longevity is fine, given they are glosses. They won’t last after a meal but they survive yap sessions just fine. Reapplication is fairly easy and forgiving. I also love how comfortable they are on the lips.
I feel like the scents differ slightly from gloss to gloss but they’re all a generic floral/fruity and inoffensive.
SWATCHES AND SHADES AVAILABLE: The Dirty Cola and Cherry Cola shades were supposedly Limited Edition and came in both 30% and 70% options. I got one each among the shades and picked different opacities for both. I did want ‘30% Dirty Cola’ but it sold out before I could get my mitts on one.
- 30% Cherry Cola – a cool cherry red. Great for everyday looks because of how sheer it is. Enhances the natural rosiness of the lips.
- 70% Dirty Cola – a cool-toned brown. Way darker on the lips than I initially anticipated. Better for stronger looks and cooler months.
