Publishing another pressed powder review right after the last one.
THE BACKSTORY: By Terry is a French luxury makeup brand started by makeup artist Terry de Gunzburg. Growing up, I’d see her products being used by many of the makeup YouTubers I watched. Her powders and eyeshadow sticks, in particular, I remember being the most hyped. I was with my friend ND last year when I bought this powder on a whim. I was really low on money at the time and I remember whining about the price of the product so much that I almost made her ears fall off. Sorry not sorry, ND. You signed up for this.
INGREDIENTS: Talc, Silica, Mica, Octyldodecanol, Caprylic/capric Triglyceride, Magnesium Stearate, Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Diisostearyl Malate, 1,2-hexanediol, Methicone, Sodium Hyaluronate, Aqua (Water), Hydroxypropyltrimonium Hyaluronate, Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid, Sodium Acetylated Hyaluronate, Hyaluronic Acid, Hydrolyzed Sodium Hyaluronate, Sodium Hyaluronate Crosspolymer, Potassium Hyaluronate. +/- : CI 77120 (Barium Sulfate) (T3355a2).
THE PRODUCT: This is the travel-sized version of this pressed powder and I like that they didn’t cut any corners, unlike most other brands when they have mini/travel-sized iterations.
It comes housed in a heavy plastic compact. The sponge puff applicator they put inside the compact, however, I think, is useless. I wish they would upgrade and give us a better applicator that would actually make us consider forgoing our brushes. It also has a tiny mirror, which I always appreciate.
Now, the powder itself is not as fine as one would expect. I say this because there is not too much of product kick-up when you swirl your brush in the pan.
The product itself instantly mattifies and blurs pores and other imperfections. It is translucent but can leave behind a ghoulish white cast if you don’t blend it out properly.
While it does leave your skin looking matte, it doesn’t emphasize any underlying dryness you might have. The finish, ultimately, is more of a skin-like satin finish and not the drying, cakey matte powder finish that you would expect out of a product like this.
It wears well throughout the day. The finish and freshness lasts quite well, especially under controlled temperatures.
I think the main selling point of this powder is that its size is just so tiny that you can just drop it in the smallest of all purses and have it on the go with you for touch-ups. It is very portable, and that is something that a lot of people want.
It is Paraben-free, Fragrance-free and Oil-free. It does have Talc, though, if that’s something of note for you.
I don’t think I will be repurchasing it anytime soon, however, because there are other powders that I am interested in trying and am currently testing. That being said, I do get the hype.
