Yes, yet another lip balm review. So, this’ll be a quickie.
Every brand under the sun has an iteration of a lip balm that comes in a tube by now. Summer Fridays was definitely one of the brands at the forefront, making this an unmissable trend. The fact that the lip balms came in cute colour-coded tubes and scents made it a must-have to have among girlypop friend groups. Your friend had one, your friend’s friend had another and so did you.
The packaging is rather generic, it comes in a plastic tube that is colour-coded to match the vibe of the scent the lip balm has. It also has a slanted, flexible silicone applicator.
The main USP of this lip balm is, I think, the cute packaging and the variety of scents it offers. These are heavily fragranced. If that turns you off, you might want to look elsewhere as they do not offer an unscented version (as of writing).
The consistency on these remind me of melted butter. Hence, the name, I suppose. “Lip Butter Balm”. Makes sense. It isn’t as plush as some other lip balms that come in tubes (think EADEM). It, instead, has a slippy texture that adheres well to the lips despite seeming like it wouldn’t.
These provide instant hydration and a glossy finish. Even after the gloss wears off, the moisture is retained and your lips still look like you give a damn. The balm instantly glides to smooth over lip-lines and obvious signs of chapping.
I also think these work well over other lip products. I often use this over my lip-stains for a glossier finish and long-lasting hydration. It’s got decent longevity but if you were to drink or eat something, you’d definitely need to re-apply.
I am fatigued by brands constantly launching things and hopping on trends. But I overlook this one because I think it’s cute. In the beauty sphere, it is a glaringly obvious way to spot overconsumption. But among regular women, I don’t think it’s a big deal if someone chooses to reward themself and uplift their mood in these morbid times by buying a lip balm from a brand they like.
These lip balms currently have 12 shades in the line-up. That number tends to keep changing as they frequently add Limited Edition/Seasonal shades.
- ‘Iced Coffee’ – has a strong chocolatey coffee scent and has a warm brown tint to it.
∴ I think these make a good gift as they’re a decent lip balm. Whether to gift one to yourself or to a loved one is entirely up to you, hehe.
