I know, I know. I repulse myself with my indolence too, but I’m just happy to be back.

THE BACKSTORY: I wrote about how much I enjoyed the bullet lipsticks from Ruby’s Organics sometime last year. Today we’re going to take a look at one of their highlighters.

THE PRODUCT: First of all, I do like the hefty and fuss-free packaging. I like that it comes in a glass jar with a plastic stopper. The stopper helps in making sure the product does not dry up and lasts longer.

The consistency of this crème highlighter is smooth and balmy. It’s a little stiff in the jar but you can warm it up with the heat from your fingers. Once slightly heated, it becomes softer and more malleable. Which, exactly, is the reason why I would recommend using your clean fingers instead of, say, a synthetic brush. You get better control of the product with your fingers. Brushes also work fine but they take longer to finesse the product. Unless, of course, you’re into looks that have highlighters feature more prominently. Then, brushes work great too.

I find that it gives a nice, pronounced glow to your skin. It doesn’t give you a lit-from-within glow like it claims to, frankly.

As for longevity, it wears well throughout the day. It starts out quite pigmented so you need to work it in. Even if the base colour fades away, you can rest assured because the pearls won’t go anywhere until you cleanse them off. In fact, I would even go as far as to say it gets prettier the longer you have it on.

It isn’t the most natural of highlighters because of its utterly obvious golden hue and the presence of small gold and peach pearl particles. That being said, you can most definitely rely on it to pack a punch during events that call for heavier looks. Like weddings, festivals and so on.

The golden hue, again, will work wonderfully for a vast majority of skin-tones. Especially those with warmer undertones. If you’re like me, with cool-neutral undertones, you’re going to have to sit this one out. However, it works well as a simple cream eyeshadow too, so at least we have that going for us.

It pains me (kinda, sorta, not really) to say this but I truly do not think the steep price-point of this highlighter is worth it. It’s a rather basic cream product. Perhaps you’ll even find a cream eyeshadow of a similar colour that does the same thing this highlighter does at a much lower price-point. Then again, I do see why the price is what it is. You’re basically paying for the aesthetic of the brand and its claims of being cruelty free and organic, amongst other things such as natural ingredient procurement.

If you truly do like the look of this highlighter, I would advise you to wait for a sale. I did the same thing and felt a lot less guilty about buying a highlighter that doesn’t necessarily fit the kind of look I prefer.

SWATCHES AND SHADES AVAILABLE: I believe Ruby’s Organics currently only has 2 shades of their cream highlighter formulation.

  • Illuminate.
  • Aura – a light gold with golden and peach shimmer pearls.

PRICE AND QUANTITY: 1100 INR for 9 grams of product.

AVAILABILITY: Ruby’s Organics site, Nykaa, Amazon etc.

♥ OVERALL: I think it’ll work great for people with warmer undertones, especially during special events. However, the steep price-tag stings and places the product on a higher pedestal than it should be on.
