Long time no post. I’ve been drowning in work, among other things. But we’re not here for excuses, are we? Let me talk about this new-ish fragrance from PHLUR (new releases are being churned out at such a pace that even this product seems older when it clearly isn’t).
THE BACKSTORY: I’ve discussed PHLUR on the blog before, when I reviewed their perfume called ‘Tangerine Boy’. It’s one of those inescapable brands in the beauty sphere. Everyone raves about it, for the most part, but I’m certain it’s a brand that isn’t particularly popular with the masses. It’s the online bubble, you know, that keeps this brand afloat.
NOTES:
Top: Bergamot Zest, Black Tea Accord
Heart: Matcha, Macadamia Milk, Warm Vanilla
Base: Musk, Amber, Patchouli
THE PRODUCT: I like to think that we are paying the big bucks for the packaging, when it comes to fragrances. We pay for the prestige and the packaging. PHLUR mists come housed in bottles made of a heavier and sturdier plastic than your average body mist. The nozzle on it sprays a fine mist, which I expect, again, because of the price-tag.
The scent, to me, opens with its sweet vanilla note. It’s a warm vanilla and is anchored by a nutty note. Immediately after, there is a bit of earthiness that I get. It’s musky and heavy. There are times when I do get a bit of the zesty bergamot note but there are more times I absolutely do not.
I do not get any notes of matcha nor any black tea. Instead, it is a very pleasant gourmand fragrance overall to me. It’s not complex. It’s straight-forward.
The brand attributes the sweet, nutty note to macadamia milk, which, again, I do not agree with. I am a baker and the nuttiness is very reminiscent of an almond extract I use in my baked goods. It smells divine, yes, but it’s not macadamia milk per se. It’s just a sweet and nutty note that adds to the perfume’s lactonic/milky vibe.
The longevity on this body mist is spectacular, especially when you compare it to your average body mist on the market. Like the Bath & Body Works mists, which evaporate off your body in mere seconds. With this, I catch myself getting a whiff of it even at the end of the day. I usually spray it on right after a shower.
Now, onto the rant portion of this review, I have to mention how incredibly sick I am of brands trying to shove the whole “layering” concept down our throats. You’re supposed to layer scents to get the best out of a product you bought. It’s just so inane. Why can’t a product stand on its own? Why must you use the body soap, then the shower gel, then the body mist, then lock it in with a body milk/lotion to get the best of a certain scent? Why must you work in layers? This isn’t a Procreate sketch.
Even for this “Matcha Milk” scent, you were supposed to layer it with the “Berry Cream” counterpart, to smell like a strawberry matcha latte. What? Shut up.
Why can’t things stand on their own anymore? Why must you use A, B & C together to pull out the full potential of A? Again, shut up. You aren’t obligated to buy the entire line of products to get the full experience.
Also, another rant, you must know how brands are capitalising on this whole Body Mist trend, by now. Every brand and its sub-brand is coming out with Body Mists. With the same three fragrance profiles. There’ll be a musky one, a pistachio/vanilla one and a floral one. All poured into the most basic bottles. With the most deranged price-tags and dubious performances. Not only are Body Mists the easiest to produce, with their insignificant traces of fragrance oils, but they’re also products that are the fastest to use up and buy back-ups of. It’s either Body Mists or Lip Balms that come in tubes, these days. Funnily enough, my next review will most likely be on a lip balm that comes in a tube.
Just know that these brands want your money for their subpar products. That’s it. Maybe stick to brands like PHLUR or Snif, when it comes to Body Mists. That way, you know you will be getting a product worth your hard-earned money.
Whew, rant over. All that being said, I do like this Body Mist. HAHAHAHHAHAHA.
