Review: MAKE UP FOR EVER Rouge Artist Intense in ’30’.

MUFElipstick   Hi, everybody. It’s Friday and my exams are finally over. No, I haven’t lost interest in my blog and yes, I intend to be more regular. Unless, of course, exams stand in my way. If you see a sudden lack of posts or irregularity in what’s being posted, you’ll now know what’s keeping me away. Let’s get back on track.

THE BACKSTORY: This July, I visited two of the three Sephora stores in the country. I was underwhelmed by both. The lack of brands was also quite disappointing. Among the few brands available was Make Up For Ever. I wasn’t really drawn to any of their products, to be honest. They are known for their vast makeup line and, in particular, their base products. I personally am never excited by base products. Hence, the lipstick.

THE PRODUCT: The formula of this lipstick is very waxy and smooth. It is, true to its name, intensely pigmented. The formula does tug on your lips a little but it isn’t drying at all and has a nice satin finish. Shade ’30’ is described as a light rosewood. It is a wonderful hue and it perfect for everyday wear. The packaging is nice and sturdy; the cap closes with a click. This line of lipsticks is available in three different finishes (matte, satin, pearl) and each finish determines how it well and for how long it sits on the lips.

Swatch of what it looks like on my lips. ^^

MY ONLY ISSUE: Apparently, it is formulated with three different waxes. This makes sense because the waxy, old-lipstick fragrance bothers me quite a bit. The formula is also a little waxy. Dare I say almost reminiscent of wax crayons?

PRICE: 1900 INR ($20 on the Sephora site) for 3.5 grams of product.

AVAILABILTY: Sephora counters, Sephora, Make Up For Ever etc.

Pros

  • It is extremely pigmented and one swipe is enough for an opaque coat.
  • It is long-lasting.
  • It is available in a variety of shades; from nudes to vampy shades.

Cons

  • It feels a little too waxy.
  • It smells a little too waxy...
  • It is stupidly expensive for a rather normal satin lipstick.
