Review: Etude House Berry Delicious Cream Blusher.

Etude House Berry Delicious Cream Blusher

Hi, everyone. Time to kick off the week in the sweetest way possible. With a couple of glitches, of course. Life’s never perfect.

THE BACKSTORY: Spring-time launches are easily my favourites. I always look forward to the softer and more fun colour palettes as opposed to the stronger and richer tones of Autumn and Winter launches. Etude House is one brand whose colour palette I can completely get on board with – they have a lot of pinks and reds in their collections, whichever season it may be. Their Spring launch this time around was no different.

A few bits and bobs from the collection.

THE COLLECTION: Etude House’s Berry Delicious collection comprises of a cushion compact with strawberry prints, 3 cream blushes, 10 shades of their Colour In Liquid Lips formula, 2 shades of their Lash Perm mascara formula, 2 eyeshadow palettes, 1 lip treatment, 1 lip scrub, 1 lip jam, 10 shades of nail colours/effects, a Eau de Parfum, a body milk, a body scrub, a bath sponge shaped like sliced bread and 2 variants of nail stickers. All of these items are limited edition.

I only got 2 of the 3 blushers available. The third shade wasn’t my kind of colour, to be honest.

Everything looked so nice… I was so excited… And then I opened it…

Yeah. They arrived broken. Both of the cream blushers had come out of the pan and I had to force and push everything back in. I’m kind of thankful that these weren’t a powder formulation. I’m not blaming anyone, to be honest. The product themselves are so soft and mushy that I can understand why they ended up the way they did. And, hey, I can still use the blushers, so everything is alright in the end. ^^’

However, I will say that the plastic packaging is flimsy. They can click shut and somehow, the red one I have doesn’t do that anymore. It’s cute but what’s the point of a product being cute if it’ll just blow up in your purse if you were to ever take it along with you? -__-‘

THE PRODUCT: These cream blushers are fantastic! They are soft, smooth, pigmented and long-wearing. Being cream blushes, you’d expect them to melt off in the heat, but they surprisingly hold up well. At the end of the day, you’ll still be able to see a soft tint on your cheeks. They are ridiculously pigmented – the red one especially – so a light hand works best. However, if you do end up with more product on your face than what you had imagined, you could easily blend it out with the sponge they provide.

The texture is almost like a gel-cream hybrid that dries down to a powder finish. I do enjoy the velvety smooth finish they leave to my cheeks. You needn’t set them with powder, they can survive on their own. But, to ensure they last you through morning till midnight, for whatever occasion, you can set them with a long-wearing powder blush.

Now, the sponge provided is a lot stiffer and tougher than your average air-puff that you’d get with BB cushions. I can see why they do such a good job with blending out the blush. However, I did try a regular air-puff in an attempt to blend out the blush and it worked just as well.

These products are heavily scented. They smell like strawberries – artificially sweet and juicy strawberry candies, to be precise. Is that even a thing?

#1 is a warm red with fine shimmers.

#2 is a matte neutral pink.

THE SHADES: There are three shades available in the range.

#1 (Wild) Strawberry – A beautiful warm red with fine gold micro shimmers (that are barely visible unless you squint your eyes). The shimmers running through it add a beautiful sheen to the cheeks. It is ridiculously pigmented and looks scary in the pan. However, with a light hand, this blush adds a soft flush to your face.

#2 (Fresh) Cream Strawberry – A beautiful neutral pink with a nude undertone. It adds a gorgeous and fresh flush to the face, so much so that I can see it being a successor for my beloved Canmake Cream Cheek in ‘CL01 Clear Heart’, which I’ve hit pan on (hitting pan on a blush is a huge deal because it’s such a difficult task). It has no shimmers but it still adds the same sheen that most cream blushes tend to do.

#3 Grapefruit Strawberry – A light, white-based grapefruit orange shade. I might get it eventually to complete my “collection”.

Both the blushes refused to show up on camera – what a bummer! Despite being so pigmented, they look so light and natural here that it saddens me. However, you can tell that #1 is a lot warmer and redder whilst #2 is more neutral and pinker. Talk about conviction. ^^’

  • They are easy to blend if you were to go heavy-handed with them by accident.
  • The longevity is great for a cream blush. It holds up well even in the heat.
  • You needn't purchase any extra brushes to use these; your fingers and the sponge provided will do.

Cons

  • The packaging, although cute, is very flimsy.
  • The strong strawberry scent might put you off.
