Annyeong, everyone. You’ve probably heard about mask sheets and their growing popularity. If not, you can find out more details below and understand what the rage is all about.

THE BACKSTORY: Most of us are already acquainted with regular face masks. They usually come in jars/tubes and you take the concoction and rub it on your face evenly and wash it off/peel it off after the suggested amount of time. Sheet masks are a lot more different than your usual face masks. They’re thin sheets of – usually – cotton or fabric that are soaked in essence. You simply follow the shape of your face while putting them on, leave them on for the suggested amount of time – 10 to 20 minutes, normally – and then you take it off and tap the excess essence on your face with your fingers lightly. I tried to take a proper photo of the mask itself several times but this sheet mask was so delicate that it ripped in several different places; I had to put it on my face before I could orchestrate a proper photo. Anyway, different masks combat different areas – some are for whitening, some are for moisture and so on. We all know citrus fruits have marvellous brightening properties and this lime mask by Innisfree does just that.

A lame attempt at taking a photo of the sheet mask – this was before it tore everywhere.

THE PRODUCT: As mentioned before, mask sheets are soaked generously in some sort of essence. Hence, the mask is very wet – that means you need to be quickly and carefully unfold the mask and place it on your face. This mask is soaked in 20 ml of lime essence that eventually brightens your face after each use. It also consists of green tea, tangerine, cactus, camellia leaves and orchid extracts. This mask is a triple layered sheet that leaves a long-lasting moisturising effect that your skin absorbs over time. The sheet itself is very delicate and will tear if you try to unfold it too quickly and impatiently or roughly. The fragrance of the mask is weird, though. It doesn’t smell much like lime – rather, it smells like strong lime flavoured medicine. However, the mask works extremely well. If you feel like your skin is looking dull and you want to give it a boost, you could easily rely on this to do so. After peeling off the masking after the designated amount of time, you’ll notice that the essence is thickly spread out on your face. With clean fingers, lightly tap in the excess essence. The essence itself is very sticky, so, your skin won’t absorb it straight away. After a good sleep, you’ll notice that your skin has drunk up the essence completely and has left your face glowing and rejuvenated. Hence, it is advised that you use sheet masks at night, before you go to sleep, for it to work better. One sheet mask per week is usually recommended and it isn’t that hard to integrate into your skincare routine. If you didn’t know already, these sheet masks are meant to be used only once. You needn’t worry, though – they’re fairly inexpensive.

DIRECTIONS TO USE: If you’re still confused how to use these, here’s how –

  • Make the texture of the skin even by using toner after washing your face.
  • Carefully take out the mask and put it evenly over the entire face, taking care not to cover the eyes and mouth.
  • Leave it for 10 to 20 minutes, take off the sheet and then dab the remaining essence gently for it to be absorbed.

PRICE: $1 – $3 for one mask sheet soaked in 20 ml of essence.

AVAILABILITY: w2beauty.com, cosmetic-love.com, innisfreeworld.com , kpoptown.com etc (I got mine from kpoptown but the shipping fee was so high that I think I’ll stick to the other more beauty oriented sites)
