BTS – Fire (& others)

BTS Fire

Good Lord, these boy groups. I’m rounding up what we saw in April. Better known as the Boy Group Comeback Month. Spoiler: Majority of the groups’ names begin with the letter ‘B’.

Let’s start off on a strong suit. The strongest, even.

In just a couple of years, BTS has come a long, long way. They have grown into a massive phenomenon – something which other groups can only dream of becoming. I’ve been following BTS’s releases from the very beginning and while I’m not an exclusive part of their massive fan club (the infamous ARMY), I truly enjoy and love the music they put out.

Like I said, I tend not to follow their concepts and such – I just listen to the music, watch the videos, go wild over their perfect footwork and vocal skills – so I cannot comment on the significance or the relevance of the music video.

I think, this time around, the music video doesn’t have much of a storyline or a concept… Just the guys milking their youth and having a great time.

Overall, impressive choreography as usual and, oh… the song has potential to become an anthem.

P. S. Like hordes of other fangirls, I’m going to go ahead and say that Jin’s blonde hair is stunning!

I was waiting for Block B to come back for the longest time. We were all so used to Block B’s unique, upbeat songs that we overlooked their potential as a group.

For this comeback, they completely changed their sound into something softer and more romantic-sounding… While I was hesitant to accept it at first, I actually loved ‘Toy’. I think they beautifully performed a slower song while still holding their own.

I loved ‘A Few Years Later’ as well and their Weekly Idol episode was hilarious (I highly recommend you check it out, especially if you’re new to the group!).

I used to be such a huge fan of VIXX… Don’t get me wrong. I still am a fan. But this time around, their comeback, ‘Dynamite’ was a let-down.

I tried to like it. Trust me, I tried. I even listened to the couple of other songs on the album but nothing stood out to me. I get that they’re experimenting but I was just disappointed. Look, Block B was experimenting too when they went totally South from what we were expecting them to do – but they held their own and delivered.

BTOB has been doing ballads for a while now… Again, I miss their upbeat songs, like ‘Thriller’, ‘You’re So Fly’ and ‘Beep Beep’! Do we detect a trend here, haha?

Then again, I loved the song. I think it’s beautiful – beautifully sung, beautifully written and beautifully performed.

For some strange reason, I was unable to properly link the music video so I linked a video of them performing on M Countdown instead.

I think Boys Republic is an underrated group.

HOWEVER… This song is generic. I think it’s a good song and you’ll get a 3 minute jog out of it for sure, but, there’s nothing special about it. Nothing special that would distinguish Boys Republic from a mountain of other boy groups that at one point, release a similar sounding song.

I still like it, though.

Lastly, we have SM’s latest boy-group, NCT U.

I was so, so, so impressed by these guys. For this to be a debut song is amazing. And I’m not being biased because it’s SM or anything (I butchered VIXX in this very post and they’re a group I adore too; I’m far from being biased).

They impressed me with ‘Without You’ as well. The song is quite simple but the way the boys performed it makes it worth the listen.

I definitely think they’re a group we need to look out for.

SPECIAL MENTION:

I’m sure no explanation is needed, because, Conan…
