Review: Skinfood Black Sugar Strawberry Mask Pack.

Skinfood Black Sugar Strawberry Mask Pack, skinfood strawberry mask

This is not my favourite Skinfood Wash-Off Mask, but I get why it’s popular.

THE BACKSTORY: Exfoliation is an essential part of any skincare routine. Make sure you exfoliate at least once a week. I personally prefer chemical exfoliants these days but I occasionally enjoy a good physical exfoliant too. I bought this Skinfood one back in October and I’ve been trying my best to use it up ever since.

THE PRODUCT: First thing’s first, this Wash-off Mask Pack smells absolutely divine! It smells like delicious strawberry jam and looks like it too. As tempted as you might get while you slather this mask on your face, make sure you don’t actually ingest it. It doesn’t taste as good as it smells/looks.

The sugar granules in this scrub are quite large and chunky. It can prove to be quite sensitising on certain people, especially if you have skin that reacts easily.

On the Skinfood US site, the directions say – “After cleansing, massage gently into damp skin, or mix with water/cosmetic water and apply. Avoid skin around the eyes and lips. After 10-15 minutes, rinse with lukewarm water.”

Or you could do it my way. You scoop some product with your fingers and spread it on your face. After you leave it on for a bit, add some water, massage it a little and then rinse it off.

This product happens to contain quite a few moisturising ingredients (Shea Butter, Strawberry Oil) that make sure your skin isn’t left feeling dry and parched. Most physical exfoliants tend to do just that. You won’t face that problem with this one.

Anyway, it is a great scrub for brightening up the complexion. It also does a great job at getting rid of dirt, grime and dead skin.

If you have normal skin that can withstand large sugar granules once a week, you’re good to go.

However, on sensitive skin-types, this product just won’t fare as well. First off, the strawberry scent may be a bit too strong. Secondly, the sugar bits may get a bit too abrasive and irritate your skin.

If the large granules bother you but you still want to finish off your jar dutifully, make sure you don’t massage it on to your skin too hard.

Or just use it as a Body Scrub. Problem solved.

My favourite Pack from Skinfood, by far, remains their Rice Wash-Off Mask Pack.
