Review: Colourpop Blotted Lipstick in ‘Ice Cube’.

This is the lip product of my dreams. I just wish I didn’t have the photo shoot on such a dreary day, you know. That being said, I’m not going to re-shoot simply because… I’m too lazy.

THE BACKSTORY: I call this the “Lip Product of my Dreams” because it’s everything I want in a lipstick. I wasn’t expecting to luck out this way but I’m seriously considering all the other shades in this line now.

THE PRODUCT: There are certain things I look for in lipsticks. If it checks all those boxes, chances are, I’ll use them on a regular basis. The last lipstick I remember using endlessly is the BBIA Last Lipstick in ‘o4’. Anyway, what I look for in a lip product are pigmentation, decent longevity (I despise touching up and rarely do), easy touch-ups (since I hesitate to touch up a lot, I need to be sure that when I do decide to touch up I can go about it easily), weightless texture and above all, comfort. I tend to find these qualities in water or gel tints the most and rarely see them in lipsticks.

This Colourpop Blotted Lipstick is amazing.

It has a much drier texture than you’d expect, like that of a true-blue matte lipstick (kind of like the MAC Retro Matte formula) but, of course, it’s much easier to work with. Since it has a dry texture, it tends to grab on to the lips better and last longer. Despite having a matte finish, it doesn’t crumble or flake.

It can be a little difficult to work with, since it can be quite sheer. I wasn’t blown away by its pigmentation or opacity but that it could easily be built up while remaining light. You can build layers upon layers easily. It gives your lips a healthy wash of colour.

It’s fascinating. When you blot your lips after applying a bright lip-colour, the saturation and impact lessens, right? It’s the same concept, except you don’t have to blot your lips at all. I feel like a kindergartener, all of a sudden. It’s so exciting, I can’t explain it to you!~

‘Ice Cube’ is a fresh, blue-toned pink that brightens up the complexion. Wear it alone or pair it with a smokey-eye. It can be quite versatile.

I’ll warn you, though. Some of you may find its dry texture difficult, so, it’s always nice to prep with a good lip-balm. Also, if you’ve tried MAC’s Retro Matte formula before (think ‘Ruby Woo’), this will be a piece of cake.

It comes packaged like your average Colourpop lip product, in its slim white tube. There’s a colour-coded label on the bottom to help you distinguish colours if you were to buy more than one shade.

SWATCHES AND SHADES AVAILABLE: I’m sure you can see its matte finish from the swatch photos. It’s surprisingly comfortable, though. And that’s coming from me – someone who usually steers clear of matte finish lipsticks.

I believe there are 8 shades available currently.

There is also an Ultra Blotted Lip formula, which seems to be its liquid counterpart.
