Review: Tony Moly X Pokémon Hand Creams

Tony Moly X Pokémon Hand Creams

It’s been a while since I posted, I know. It’s exam season, you guys. I’m currently playing catch-up with my curriculum – like any other student at the end of a semester. I do intend to post some pre-written reviews while I am in the midst of exams, just to make the blog look more active than it actually is. That being said, let’s talk about these adorable little Pokémon hand creams!

THE BACKSTORY: Again, I’m sure you’re aware of the Tony Moly X Pokémon collaboration. If you aren’t, let me guide you – Tony Moly is a popular Korean brand that recently collaborated with Pokémon to bring you a limited edition collection of products. The collection started out with hand creams, foam cleansers, sheet masks and moisturisers and soon expanded into makeup products, comprising of eyeshadow trios, cushion blushers, BB cushions and lip tints. Only yesterday, they announced a few more additions to the line, adding mascaras and lip balms. Tony Moly, STOP. Enough is enough. I don’t have any money to spare now.

P. S. A huge thank you to my brother, Udit, for being such a wonderful hand model! I can’t wait to do some more photoshoots with you! I love, love, love how the photos turned out!

THE PRODUCT: There’s not much to say about the hand creams, honestly. The consistency is thick but they aren’t sticky or overly rich. They get absorbed quite quickly and leave your hands feeling moisturised for a decent amount of time. I think they are perfect for the winter time. I reckon they’ll make perfect little presents too, especially for the upcoming Holiday season. From what I’ve tried, they are pretty good products.

They all have different fragrances, to match the different characters on the packaging. I think they all smell great and I don’t find the scent to be too overwhelming, which is always an area of concern for me since I have a sensitive nose.

One thing I will whine about is the quantity. Most hand creams come with 60 ml of product whereas these only contain 30 ml of product and retail for a much higher price. If others contain only 30 ml of product, they tend to cost a lot lesser than what these do.

VARIANTS AVAILABLE: There are 8 different variants in this line of hand creams, so you are bound to find a fragrance you like. Since Tony Moly is a Korean brand, the Pokémon have their official Korean names stamped onto the products instead of the more familiar English/Japanese ones.

  • Pikachu (Pikachu) – Sweet Vanilla scent
  • Fairi (Charmander) – Fresh Grapefruit scent
  • Issanghesi (Bulbasaur) –Fresh Green Tea scent
  • Kkobugi (Squirtle) – Lotus scent
  • Purin (Jigglypuff) – Sweet and Sour Peach scent
  • Togepi (Togepi) – Sour Lemon scent
  • Jammanbo (Snorlax) – Lavender scent
  • Eevee (Eevee) – Powder scent

Pokemon Tony Moly Issanghesi Bulbasaur Hand Cream

Bulbasaur’s name in Korean is Issanghesi, which is a combination of strange and seed. That being said, this hand cream smells exactly like Elizabeth Arden’s Green Tea perfume, which, by the way, is one of my all-time favourite fragrances.

Tony Moly Pokemon Fairi Charmander Hand Cream

Charmander’s name in Korean is Fairi, which is a combination of fire and tail. The hand cream smells like tart grapefruits.

Pokemon Tony Moly Kkobugi Squirtle Hand Cream

This, I think, is my favourite scent in the entire collection. The hand cream has a very sweet and soft floral scent and is labelled as having a “Lotus” fragrance. Squirtle’s name in Korean is a combination of little and turtle.

PRICE AND QUANTITY: $5 – $8 (depending on where you purchase it) for 30 ml of product.

AVAILABILITY: testerkorea.com, ibuybeauti.com, RoseRoseShop.com, cosmetic-love.com etc

OVERALL: Though a bit pricier, I do like them. Do I think you absolutely positively need them? No. There are products that are as good, if not better, at a lower price-point. If you’re a fan of Pokémon, you could get one for the adorable packaging.

Pros

  • They aren't overly thick or rich. They provide an appropriate amount of moisture to the hands.
  • The scents are nice and are not overwhelming.
  • The packaging is adorable.
  • They have a good variety of scents available.

Cons

  • Availability is an issue. Morever, this is a Limited Edition release.
  • These won't work for people who have extremely dry hands. You'll need to use them constantly if you do have such dry hands.
  • The price is just a little too much for the quantity.
