Tiffany – I Just Wanna Dance

Tiffany I Just Wanna Dance

I’m just going to say that I’ve been wallowing in Tiffany’s solo debut greatness all week. Yes, I am blaming Tiffany for my lack of posts this week.

I’m sure, for all K-Pop lovers, Tiffany needs no introduction. However, if you’re not familiar with Tiffany, let me introduce her to you. Tiffany is one of the lead vocalists from the legendary K-Pop Super Group, Girls’ Generation/SNSD/So Nyeo Shi Dae. My love for K-Pop stemmed from Girl’s Generation’s “Kissing You” many moons ago.

Last year, we saw their leader, TaeYeon, make her solo debut – which was a massive success. Following in her footsteps is Tiffany.

Note: Tiffany is my favourite member in Girls’ Generation.

I actually quite liked the song. I always expected Tiffany to make her solo debut with a song like this, to be honest. And she did not disappoint.

I felt a slight f(x) vibe – my all time favourite K-Pop act – in the beginning of the song but soon enough, Tiffany owned the song.

The song has a familiar feel to it – it’s like you’ve heard it before. In the end, the song is quite likeable and, well, dance-able.

The music video, I thought, was delightful. I read several comments on Tiffany being one of the weakest dancers in Girl’s Generation. I don’t think the title ‘I Just Wanna Dance’ (or the song itself) is to prove Tiffany’s dancing abilities.

I felt the music video represented two universes. One where freedom was more easily accessible and one where Tiffany felt restrained… Tiffany merely wants to dance the night away. She wants to break free from the chains that bind her and she just wants to close her eyes and dance away all her worries.

Well, that’s what I gathered.

The visuals were very minimalstic, especially for an SM music video. While the video wasn’t as breathtaking as TaeYeon’s “I”, it explored the streets of Tiffany’s home country.

The dance sequences were rather great, especially since Tiffany is known as one of the weakest links when it comes to dancing. The background dancers, though fierce, didn’t take the spotlight away from Tiffany.

Even if she is known as Girls’ Generation’s Fashion Queen, Tiffany kept the fashion here rather minimal – nothing sparkly or over the top. Her hair was let down in some sequences and in others, it was tied up. The makeup throughout the video was basically Tiffany’s signature look, which we all love and adore.

I’ve been listening to the mini-album continuously for a few days now. All I can say is that I absolutely love it. The songs are synth-y, fresh and strangely soothing. All the songs in the album sound similar but at the same time, they are completely different from one another – there’s an inexplicable cohesion.

All in all, I am extremely impressed with my beloved Tiffany’s solo debut and I cannot wait for her future releases.
